The UK luxury watch market in 2025

The UK secondary market for luxury watches has matured considerably over the last decade. Online platforms like Chrono24, Watchfinder, and Bob's Watches have brought global liquidity to what was once a fragmented market. After the extraordinary price spikes of 2021–2022, the market has normalised. Prices for popular references have settled closer to their historical premiums, while less in-demand references have returned to or below retail price.

Current UK watch valuations by brand

Rolex
£3,000 – £100,000+

Submariner, GMT-Master II, and Daytona lead demand. Values have stabilised post-2022 peaks. Full set with papers adds 10–25%.

Omega
£1,200 – £15,000

Speedmaster Professional and Seamaster Professional hold value well. Vintage Speedmasters in original condition attract strong collector interest.

Patek Philippe
£8,000 – £500,000+

The strongest long-term value retention of any brand. Nautilus and Aquanaut remain highly sought. Complications attract significant premiums.

Audemars Piguet
£10,000 – £200,000+

Royal Oak in steel is the benchmark. Values have softened slightly from 2022 highs but remain well above retail for desirable references.

Breitling
£1,500 – £12,000

Navitimer and Chronomat are the most liquid references. Values are generally modest relative to retail for most models.

IWC
£1,800 – £20,000

Portugieser and Pilot lines dominate. Big Pilot references remain popular. Portofino and Da Vinci are harder to sell above retail.

VAT and duty considerations

Private sales between individuals in the UK do not attract VAT. However, if you sell through a dealer or marketplace, VAT may apply to their commission or margin. For high-value watches sold through auction, buyer's premium (typically 15–25%) is added on top of the hammer price.

Post-Brexit import rules mean that watches purchased from the EU may attract customs duty and import VAT when brought into the UK.
